On the Set

The main location for the film was the functioning mental home located in ancient Nikolo-Poshehonsky monastery in the vicinity of Moscow. Professional actors were engaged only in leading roles. Supporting roles were played by the actual patients of the mental home. Some of them even had to learn rather large and complicated pieces of Chekhov’s text. Excerpts of interviews with those people and documentary shooting of their everyday life in the mental home were included in the final cut of the film. The footage proved to be so interesting that the crew decided to make a separate documentary film of it. It will be a special bonus on the DVD of the film.
